Any good dealer should know that testers sell your product. I'm not a fan of Ms. Rice's, having only read one or two, but that seems to indicate a certain lack of faith in the material, possibly combined with Meyeresque concerns about internet pointing and laughing. But maybe it's what's done now.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
It's not uncommon for a highly anticipated book to be embargoed. That way its release is more of an event. I mean, I don't (personally) have great expectations for its quality, but I don't think the embargo is necessarily an indicator that the publisher expects bad press.
Unlike with a movie, though.
I just finished Leigh Bardugo's Ruin and Rising.
DAMMIT.
But I'm not surprised that there's an embargo on it. I was just hoping there was some sort of gothy magic I could make work.

I expect it to be cracktastic and nutty. But it's the Vampire Lestat, so I don't really care! Plus, as long as it's a tiny leap in quality from Blood Canticle, I'll consider it good fun.
(I consider Blood Canticle to be delightfully silly, but that's not MY Lestat, dammit. It's a weird AU version of him.)
(Hi, my feels about the Vampire Chronicles, let me show you them.)
Ok, maybe I'm thinking of movies/TV.
I recently went through a bunch of free books I got from BookBub and quickly dumped nearly all of the ones that were 1st person POV female, as well as others. I don't think I have an issue with 1st person female, but that POV tends to default to an attempt at quirky snarkiness that rapidly wears thin. I was surprised at how many of the mystery/urban fantasies I picked up were 1st person female. Of course, free ebooks are not the broadest spectrum of books, but I'm very glad I didn't pay money for those.
1st person can be wonderful, but the story can get lost in the voice.
The first two Enright books are here--so quickly! Unfortunately, they're later in the series, so I'm not going to read them yet. I read the first few pages, and so far they hold up nicely. Not twee, not simplistic, straightforward and pleasant.
I had a great time at the Joe Hill signing tonight. Pictures are on facebook starting here. I'm kicking myself for not bringing any books other than the one that was just released. He was willing to sign up to three, and if you wanted to go back to the end of the line after that, he would sign more. Such a genuine, nice guy.
He takes after his dad. From my experience Stephen King was always a good (if somewhat cracked) egg.
Guess who is working up the courage to email Anne Rice's publicist asking for an interview? BECAUSE WHY THE HELL NOT?
