Ok, maybe I'm thinking of movies/TV.
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
I recently went through a bunch of free books I got from BookBub and quickly dumped nearly all of the ones that were 1st person POV female, as well as others. I don't think I have an issue with 1st person female, but that POV tends to default to an attempt at quirky snarkiness that rapidly wears thin. I was surprised at how many of the mystery/urban fantasies I picked up were 1st person female. Of course, free ebooks are not the broadest spectrum of books, but I'm very glad I didn't pay money for those.
1st person can be wonderful, but the story can get lost in the voice.
The first two Enright books are here--so quickly! Unfortunately, they're later in the series, so I'm not going to read them yet. I read the first few pages, and so far they hold up nicely. Not twee, not simplistic, straightforward and pleasant.
I had a great time at the Joe Hill signing tonight. Pictures are on facebook starting here. I'm kicking myself for not bringing any books other than the one that was just released. He was willing to sign up to three, and if you wanted to go back to the end of the line after that, he would sign more. Such a genuine, nice guy.
He takes after his dad. From my experience Stephen King was always a good (if somewhat cracked) egg.
Guess who is working up the courage to email Anne Rice's publicist asking for an interview? BECAUSE WHY THE HELL NOT?
The worst they can say is no! Do it!!
Go Jilli!
Go Jilli! Go Jilli!
Sent the email. I feel like I need to create some sort of summoning circle out of all the copies of her books I own.
