Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

The status is NOT quo.

Has anyone over here burbled about Jenny Lawson (aka The Bloggess) and her split-your-sides-laughing memoir Let’s Pretend This Never Happened? [link]

Because seriously, people, I haven’t laughed that hard in...I don’t know how long. And it’s also tender and so heartbreaking in places that you’ll want to cry, but then it becomes incredibly, inappropriately hilarious again and you’re back to nearly peeing yourself. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

giraffe mode

Pix, I just finished it this afternoon. I really liked it, and I managed to wake my husband up twice while I was reading it late at night because I was unsuccessfully trying to silent laugh. It was damn funny!

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Pix, I am totally planning on getting that and reading it. I am a huge fan of hers. Glad to hear it stands up to her blog!!

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

There's like half on this list that just hit my funnybone.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I've actually seen Jenny Lawson's book in the store ... but I'm trying to avoid buying hardbacks.

I did, however, knowing her love of taxidermied animals, send her a link to a story about The Famous Tommy Tucker (a squirrel, rasised by a woman, who'd dress him up and take him around). He's spending eternity dressed in pink satin and pearls (he wore dresses because tail + pants = problems).

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I was a mite confused but thought maybe it was somehow relevant because of F U, Penguin. Somehow.

I just finished Timeless ! I think I know what Jilli is gleebling about!

I liked it more than the last two, to my surprise. I thought I was just reading out of inertia (although I do enjoy the books), but I felt an unexpected fondness for the characters and the world.

EEEEEEEee! IVY IS A VAMPIRE QUEEN!

Pete is finally reading it, and when he read the bit about the play, he said "Oh, that's why you're happy, because Ivy played a vampire queen in that ridiculous production". Ha, no! It's better than that!

Also, OMG BIFFY AND LYALL! I want to draw sparkly hearts around them.

I also want more of Lord Akeldama's adventures in parenting, because I love how he dotes on Prudence.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I was sorry Ivy didn't stay in Egypt, because I like the idea of "Ivy, Queen of the Desert." Vampire millinery will never be the same.
