I think a lot of people are going to be confused.
I know I was but it only took me a few chapters to fall in love as much as I had with the movie.

Your many may vary, but in a self-selecting geek audience, it's not exactly obscure. The book has had almost as many editions as the DVD.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
I've found a fair %age of people who'd identify themselves as SF and fantasy fans haven't read the book, and a depressing number don't even know that it exists, or that it has any sizable difference from the movie.
