Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Found another HP plot hole. In HPVII, Deathly Hallows, Harry takes polyjuice potion so he can attend Bill & Fleur's wedding without being recognized.

Except we have already established (in this same book, in fact) that polyjuice potion only lasts an hour. And there's no mention of him taking any more during the course of the post-wedding party before Kingsley's patronus arrives.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Aww, thank you, smonster!

Kim Newman just confirmed me as a friend on FB, and I ordered my new edition of Anno Dracula last night.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

I think the polyjuice potion lasts more than an hour, and duration seems to vary based on the person's size since all the HP decoys de-Harry at different times even though they drink in rapid sucession. Also inside the ministry they don't know exactly how long they have before it runs out.

In ASoIaF news, _Feast for Crows_ is narrated by a different reader than the first 3 books! And i don't like him! And he pronounces names differently! It's really bugging me, i might have to just read the hard copy instead of listening to the cds.

eta: after a little research, i can forgive the first actor (Roy Dotrice) for not doing the 4th book - apparently he was cast as Pycelle in the tv series and had to bow out due to med reasons. And if you can't film a relatively small part, how on earth could you narrate a tome that large. And he played Wesley's father on Angel. I totally don't recall ever meeting Wesley's parents. But still no love for new actor not researching how to pronounce "Viserys". No cookie for him.

Art Crawl!!!

I don't think we did - but there was a Wesley-Father bot in (I believe) the final season of Angel.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I finished PoA, and I am still so miffed that the movie cut out the explanation of the Marauder's Map. I mean, what the hell. Does the movie even explain why Harry's Patronus is a stag?

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

My recollections of the movies, having shown them to a friend who never read the books, is that they explain very little. They assume you've read the books.

I'm pretty sure in at least 2 of the moviee Harry talks about his Dad's patronus also being a stag.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Yeah, I don't think that most of the movies, except the first one, make much sense without the books. And once you get past the third or so, there's so much backstory that it would take about three movies per book to get in all the explanations. I thought OotP especially seemed like a bunch of scenes strung together, like they knew they had to get in certain things that would be important later, but there were so many of those that there wasn't really time to really get a plot.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

It's not that his father's patronus was a stag, it's because he was an Animagus that turned into a stag.

So...yeah. Not a sentence I thought I'd type.

Wow, I'd totally forgotten that tidbit.
