I finished PoA, and I am still so miffed that the movie cut out the explanation of the Marauder's Map. I mean, what the hell. Does the movie even explain why Harry's Patronus is a stag?
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
My recollections of the movies, having shown them to a friend who never read the books, is that they explain very little. They assume you've read the books.
I'm pretty sure in at least 2 of the moviee Harry talks about his Dad's patronus also being a stag.
Yeah, I don't think that most of the movies, except the first one, make much sense without the books. And once you get past the third or so, there's so much backstory that it would take about three movies per book to get in all the explanations. I thought OotP especially seemed like a bunch of scenes strung together, like they knew they had to get in certain things that would be important later, but there were so many of those that there wasn't really time to really get a plot.
It's not that his father's patronus was a stag, it's because he was an Animagus that turned into a stag.
So...yeah. Not a sentence I thought I'd type.
Wow, I'd totally forgotten that tidbit.
I spent a lot of time reading Marauders-era fic.
If I had millions of dollars, I'd pay for those girls to finish The Shoebox Project.
Which in turn is why Snape's patronus is so important.
Reason # 45923 why I wish they had waited until canon was completed before making the movies.
