Actually not needing validation right now, but thank you.

I don't have the day off. sigh.

My great uncle died yesterday. I didn't know him very well but my Dad is really upset. I remember when I was a kid, he gave me a metal bank that was like a cash register and he had put $10 worth of coins in it. I thought that was just the shit. Anyway, here's his obit (he was quite a cutie in his day): [link]

{{Gloomcookie and family}} I'm so sorry. What a lovely obituary, GC. He really was a cutie!

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Peace to you and your Dad, GC.

{{GC & family}} He was a cutie.

I had that same bank, and loved it. [link]

What is even happening?

Gloomcookie, I'm so sorry for your loss. Peace to your whole family, your dad in particular.

Your great uncle looks a lot like the photos of my dad did in his Navy days.

Thanks for the good wishes. And Sparky that was totally the bank! Mine was black instead of red. Good times.

I gave a couple of those banks as xmas presents to a friend's kids because I had such a good memory of it -- my husband thought I was crazy, but the kids loved 'em and their mother has now given it as a gift herself.

It is funny that it is such a hit with the kids. I know I loved it, too.

For me, I think it was watching the wealth accumulate and knowing that my sisters didn't have it (bank or money) and having the time to daydream about what I could do with ten! whole! dollars!

The kids we gave it to have opened bank accounts, and are being taught that they should spend a little, save a little and give a little to charity. It's adorable.
