Going back a bit - Abortions have always been carried out. When they were illegal it was by amateurs, some with good intentions, some just out for money. It was dangerous - even if not fatal, women often ended up with infections that could have long-term effects. When abortions became legal, it was possible to go to a doctor and get professional care.

My worry is that this kind of information -- guides to "safe" illegal abortions, performed by laymen -- will end up causing more harm than it prevents. I understand why it feels necessary to get this information out there, I just hope to god the original author knew what she was talking about.
