Before I forget--did you mean the BtVS story cycle or the FTWND?
Both. Either. Your plot bunnies are a source of joy to me.

Why do people use the word ministrations?
That is all.
Why do people use the word ministrations?
Well, some good writers use it because it's the right word for what they want to say.
I take it that you've found someone who is less skilled than that. Or even several of them.
Ministrations has a nice quiet feel to it, the proper word for tending to someone, especially in the sense of someone who is hurt.
My personal word bugaboo is the rein vs. reign: One reins in their feelings/emotions/actions, much like reining in a horse. Granted, not so many people are familiar with the procedures of controlling a horse these days, but the phrase is still good.
t rant I've gotten to the point that I'll rec a fic just for the proper use of "rein in" alone.
viscious
"Free reign" is the one that bugs me. Also, "tows the line."
"Free reign"
Yes! Yes!
"tow the line"--this one has always boggled me a bit. Is it in the sense of behaving? If so, then, yeah, "toe" that line, buddy. Is there a usage for "towing", as in pulling a heavy weight?
I'm seeing lots of misuse with people saying "tow the party line." I think it's only "tow" if there's a literal weight on a rope involved.
I get irked by the use of "cannon" when "canon" is what's meant. The reign/rein/rain issue is another one that drives me absolutely batshit.
The word "ministrations" makes me think of a) bad h/c fic or b) soup.
