Some people seem to feel like that about hobbits, which I find strange. But we all have different squick-triggers: one thing that triggers squick for me is abuse of trust- I can't deal with Xander/Giles, although I read Xander/Angel, Giles/Angel, Xander/Spike and Giles/Spike with pleasure. Might be the vampire factor I'm after, of course, but I don't think so. Xander/Riley and Giles/Ethan are okay. I also don't read incest at all. Just...don't.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

But at the same time, kid/kid love seems light and sweet and strangely affecting, with slight meta-story bad-wrong overtones but basically wonderful.

considers.

Hmm. Well, I like Zahra's Harry/Draco, despite the fact that they're wee, because she writes them like they would be at that age - with the cute wee boy crushage, and not The Big Gratuitous Sex. So, yeah, that's cute. And somebody wrote an adorable and utterly silly AU Baby!Clex thing in which they were both the same age (just go with it) and met when they were five. Instead of The Porsche there was The Purple Tricycle Of Fate. It was just unbelievable tooth-rotting sweetness and it totally disarmed me. I was all 'Aaaaw, Bless!' incoherent. But not in a porny way, just in an 'Aaaw bless' way. Um.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I have no problems with sexy hobbits, but I've never really seen hobbits as being particularly child-like -- just short. I mean, they have a whole society, with, I figure, reproduction and all that going on. I do have problems with reading about characters under 15 or so in sexual situations. No personal history issues for me, it's just a squick. Likewise incest fic. On the other hand, breaking trust? Nonconsensual? Authority figure gone bad? Bring it on. I've got a serious badboy, and/or rougue authority-figure thing that a) finds a deep resonance in Ripper and b) I've managed to keep within the bounds of fic, luckily. Well, you're welcome to it. I don't like noncon. Not here, not there, not anywhere.

Y Squick MV, naturally. I've spent some time trying to figure out why one makes me go "Ugh!" and hit the back button hard enough to bruise my track pad, and the other makes me go, "Hmmmmm. What else has the author done?" 'Cause there are similar aspects to both underage and noncon that I would think would promote similar responses in me. Clearly the psychology behind my responses to various types of porn is a little difficult to figure out.

ETA: Welcome to the disreputable corner, FayJay. I'm thinking of putting in futons.

Heh.

t darkly I don't most like Zahra.

I'm trying to think of if I read kid-fic recently that gave me a "aww, bless" happy, but can't dredge up specific, good examples. Maybe nos. 10 and 66 from the great Shack Challenge?

Mine also. Given that large amounts of bloodplay, h/c, and attempted suicide by vampire bite mid-orgasm don't bother me, even to the 'more! more!' point of not-botheredness.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Oh, I have such strange triggers about issues of young children and sex. I mean, probably not very strange, but intense. I got stuck one night, I was reading all this Lost Boys slash that was just written *so* well, and so movingly, and so good, and it was incest slash, of course, and I was just freaking out unable to stop reading but in a high state of distress. It's a very viscerally important issue, for me; one of the most. It's surprising. And I loved the LB slash partaways because I love bad-wrong-horrible-the-world-is-doomed fiction, the way I loved the BtVS Wishverse.

One thing I loved about The Witching Hour, by Anne Rice (back when she was good, if very purple-prose-y), was Mona, the 13-year-old genius who slept with everyone she could get her hands on. Including 42-year-old men. And much much older men. And I realized I should be squicked, but I just wasn't.
