Wow, you've really mastered the power of positive giving-up.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Golden Dawn

I think I have my goldens mixed up -- not the South American communist paramilitary organization?

No - the Theosophists.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

but I'm serious: I want to see the trailer that makes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory look like a children's movie.

Just shots of Charlie Bucket, then.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

If you have a videocamera, I might be willing to pay money to see this.

Tempting, tempting ...

And the candy room!

My little brother and I used to try to recreate it with building blocks and tissue paper.

If you go to the Bellagio they have the largest functional chocolate waterfall in America. (It's pretty small compared to Wonkaland, but still...chocolate waterfall! Okay, it's more of a fountain.)

I've been trying to think who would be a good director to do a re-make of Mary Poppins. I mean, sure, my default suggestion is Tim Burton, but that's because I'm a huge fan of his work. I just wonder if there would be someone even better suited for my dream movie project.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Just shots of Charlie Bucket, then.

The ones where he looks poor or the ones where he's terrified?

Honestly, six elderly relatives in a bed? That movie gave my effing nightmares.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Partly cause I can see him grinding his teeth and making *THAT* face, but also partly because IMExperience, I've never heard an American say, "That was the worst Southern accent I've ever heard! She sounded Georgian and she is clearly suppoed to be from Alabama!"

However nothing gets hooted at in this part of the country more than a misapplied New England accent or a bad attempt at same. Newsflash, folks - people with a trad Boston accent don't talk like the Kennedys.

How about one of the Davids (Cronenberg or Lynch)?

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Honestly, six elderly relatives in a bed?

There were only four. Sillyhead.

Gramma Josephine, Gramma Georgina, Grampa George and Grampa Joe.

I love that movie.
