I swear, I have not laughed so hard at a trailer than when the Transformers trailer came on on Saturday. Luckily, I wasn't the only one.

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Are there two trailers for Transformers. Because the one I saw had a Mars Rover get smashed by something unseen and then the logo. I guess I'm missing the humor.

I guess I'm missing the humor. That was pretty much it, but it was just so cheesy and silly and then with the logo unfurling and I might have been in a mental placeto laugh anyway. But I found it silly and cheesy and therefore hilarious.
I've taken the world's most perfect killing machine and needlessly turned it into a robot...
Oh wait, that's TINFINS, not TRANSFORMERS - my bad.
Grizzlebees!!!!
I was startled too, Juliana, and laughed myself. I mean, if it hadn't been those Transformers, it wouldn't have been funny. But it was!

That's exactly it. It's impossible to take them seriously, therefore Teh Funny.
Lee -- I think POTC whitefont goes minimal this Friday, since it'll have been out for 2 weeks then.

This. The super-serious treatment is what's funny. It's a freaking Transformers movie!

Not only that - isn't it a sooper-serious Michael Bay Transformers movie?
All the PotC talk (and seeing it last Friday) has renewed my lurve for the best piratical book I've ever seen/read/heard of..."Under the Black Flag: The Romance and Reality of Life Among the Pirates." I heart me some David Cordingly commentary on all things pirate. Including a statement that had me musing all weekend. Imagine a life before (read: without) Stevenson's Treasure Island.
I can't do it!
Discovery Channel had an interesting special on last week (and probably still) on the real Caribbean pirates. (ETA: actually I think maybe it was the History Channel)
