I just saw Krrish. Any Bollywood fans interested in thoughts?
Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I'm interested, on general principles.
Pirates improves on a second viewing. Very rich text, actually, and the storylines and dialogue and arcs become more clear after you've absorbed the spectacle on the first viewing.
I suppose people are already talking about this elsewhere, but I haven't seen it here, but Tia Dalma has the same heart locket on her table that plays music for the Dutchman. And, of course, the motif on the front of the chest lock is also a heart. Also - get it - "dead man's chest" doubles for the Dutchman's own emotional state. Anyway, it seems likely that Tia Dalma may be the woman who broke the Dutchman's heart. Or at the very least, she knows that person since she has the locket.
I don't think that did come up here, Hec, but it certainly came up in Jilli's LJ, among others. Also, the notion that those wax-sealed letters were kept next to his heart in Davy's chest. Plus, the theme throughout of keys, locks and keys, and their implied opposite, freedom.
Hec, I noticed that. Also, that the heart-shaped music box stopped playing after Will took the key. When I saw Tia's locket, I wondered the same thing about her being the woman Davy loved -- although she'd have to be working some powerful magic to stay so young-looking, wouldn't she? I loved the theme of keys and hearts.
I just it yesterday, though, and am still trying to process everything. I'd definitely like a second watch at some point.
I saw it again last night, and I agree. The stuff Jack takes isn't important. The point of all that business is to show the necklace. I just read some speculation that she's Calypso, which seems quite on-the-nose. It also fits with her saying that Davy Jones's love was a woman or the sea, same thing.
Also, this time there was a Transformers teaser. We couldn't stop laughing. It looked like a Robot Chicken parody.
Best SOAP shirt so far.
Heh. We saw the poster up for it at the theater yesterday when we saw Pirates and stared at it reverently.
We saw the trailer when we went to Pirates yesterday. So. Good. Ben was kind of baffled that I was sitting there rubbing my hands together in glee.

I had a similar reaction to that trailer.
Hec, I never thought about Dalma being the women who broke his heart, good point. I loved all of the heart and chest symbolism. How his heart is still beating but in a wooden chest while the chest of his body is empty.
