Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Interesting that so many people disliked the first Ice Age. Husband and I laughed and laughed. We have a sneaking affection for the skrat, though.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I didn't dislike it exactly, but it didn't much grab me. Also, I got irritated because it used two of the same pieces of music that Matilda did, and I started getting all misty and sentimental the minute they started playing, and then felt all manipulated and disgruntled. It wasn't awful overall, though, just meh.

This one I'll happily watch again.

It is perhaps a sign that our TV spends way too much time on Nickelodeon that when the end credits rolled I completely ignored all the bigger names and squeed, "Oooh, Emmett, look! Josh Peck!"

"Oooh, Emmett, look! Josh Peck!"

Ahhh Drake and Josh, they have a season pass on the Tivo along with Spongebob and The Avatar.

See Skrat was the only reedeeming thing for me in the first Ice Age, but I'll admit I was meh on Madagascar too (although the penguins were first rate)

EtA: eh? Maybe I'm just too picky!

No, Madagascar was more or less crap. Except for the pengiuns. And the lemur voiced by Ali G.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Word.

"After much deep and profound brain things inside my head..."

Also: "Remember, cute and cuddly, boys. Cute and cuddly. "

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

See Skrat was the only reedeeming thing for me in the first Ice Age

Yep. Also, I had major issues with the humans shaving and wearing jewelry and having twentieth-century family dynamics and all-around being way too evolved for my tastes. It took me right out of the movie; I don't care that it was animated.

I had a similar reaction to the fact that in Shark Tale, a movie that takes place entirely underwater, they SHUFFLE PAPER AROUND.

Hey. New board.

I kinda like that Top Indy Movies list. Donnie Darko representing at number 2 makes me happy.

I've never seen the original Ice Age. I loved Matilda, though. It was one of those movies that managed to capture just the right amount of the book, for me. And the book defined my childhood more than even the other Roald Dahl's, so that's good.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You do know that fishes can't speak English, right?

Always Anti-fascist!

I thought Shark Tale was cute, if all about the meta...maybe I just liked the Chi-Lites being in the flashback sequence.
