It looks like this guy has had some serious complications from the accident, but having some buckshot rain down on you, especially while quail hunting, is pretty common.
He didn't "have buckshot rain down on him"; he got caught with what looks like most of a load of birdshot. PDF of the hunting report here: [link]
That's not "peppered". That's "shot".
Apparently the problem with having birdshot in your throat and chest is that over time it can migrate into the circulatory system and thence to the heart. It isn't that he was shot in the heart, it's that the birdshot is on the move.

it's also lead shot, not steel, which okay if you're 78, maybe you don't need to worry about lead poisoning.
Still. Bad Form, Cheney!

Which in this case has already happened, which is why he had a heart attack this morning.

Well, we're off the Bon Jovi hook at least -- though this leads us perilously close to Willie Nelson territory.

The best that he can hope for is to die in his sleep?
Wait, that's Kenny Rogers. Nevermind.
Timelies all!
(and that's all I've got. Sad, no?)
So, anyone else hearing reports that Katie Holmes might just have grabbed her soul back?
It’s also true that Texas has an appalling and disgraceful tradition of canned hunts on game farms.
Man, ain't that the truth. The first time I went down through the southwestern part of the Hill Country, I was completely appalled to realize that those sad-looking tiny animals on the ranches we were passing were elk and antelope. My friends I was traveling with were both avid hunters and were even more disgusted than I was.
And yeah, it's one thing to have some shot rain down on you from the sky on the other end of its arc, but it doesn't usually break the skin. Cheney shot that guy. Which is terrible, but I don't think a hunting accident would be an impeachable offense if Cheney had handled it correctly. The obfuscation and blame-the-victim bullshit is further evidence of how much contempt Cheney has for the American people.

Has Cheney commented on it? I didn't think he had said much of anything.
