How do you get Lalo from Eduardo in Spanish? Or Pancha from Fernanda?
The Lalo thing makes sense to me, since I can get pretty close to an L sound saying Eduardo in Spanish (ish). F and P feel close in my mouth, too. I'm fascinated by all this.
I really just don't quite get why people didn't name their kids more different things.

Maybe it's also because you have perfectly acceptable options for nicknames that seem to make more sense (Edu for Eduardo, Feña for Fernanda/o).

Well, sure, but not if the baby's grandparent and cousin and neighbor are already using them. I know a family that ended up with a Bill, Will, and Willis -- Willis was Bill's step-son, Will was Bill's son.
