The last really good hairstylist I had was in Evanston (at, of all places, the Hair Cuttery). I never had to tell her anything -- she was always able to intuit what my hair needed at whatever length I presented her with.
The trouble with NYC stylists is they're all so friggin' expensive. (All the under-$50 cuts I've gotten have been subpar. Not all of them have been terrible, but none have been great.) I don't mind paying $60 for a haircut if I know it's going to be good, but I'm leary of trying new places when the cost is that high.
Yay cookbooks! Can't wait.
Thanks so much for the MLK and Bobby Kennedy texts. 1968 was one of the most significant years of my life. At the tender age of 14 the assassinations of these men and the violence at the Democratic convention all in one year awakened my interest in the world around me in a most dramatic fashion. I can’t read the words without hearing the voices and tearing up.
I finally cut my hair and am bleaching it now. The headaches make both actions quite unappealing, but I looked like crap.
MG, what did you like about your previous haircuts? I think the one you had on that picture on Deb's steps was very flattering for you.
Just as a quick exercise, look in the mirror and pull the hair on the sides tightly back off your face. Does it look better? A common problem with medium-short hair (bob length or so) is when it's getting too horizontal. It's not flattering for the face to have all that width. Since you have curly hair that could be a problem.
I know the picture of which you speak. Hey, I even have it here at work. I had much less length then. It did not feel as mop like. I might print that out for whoever I go to, though it is not much on detail, just basic shape.
I have to believe, Beverly. I have to believe or I have been through a lot of crap for no good reason...and I think I have just made liberalism a splinter religion and how very sacrilicious of me. But I guess it is the role it plays in my life, for good or ill.
I've moved since the cookbook order went in. Any chance they can come to the new address?
Kristin, word on the street is it's already taken care of.
Emily, I sent you a sad and crampy email.
Signed, my uterus hurts AND I'm starving.
Well, I'm back from Guatemala. It's the best place ever, and anybody that wants to learn some Spanish should consider going to Antigua for a couple of weeks or longer. The school I used was awesome and will give you 4 hours per day of one-on-one tutoring for $135 a WEEK, and, if you're willing to live with a native family, room and board for an additional $85 a WEEK. OR, perfectly nice hotels can be found for $15 a night or less and food is $10 a day or less, so... cheapest educational vacation EVER.
ETA: Sorry for the asscap abuse, I just had an awesome time and want to go back. For a month. Right now.
By the way, anybody speak pretty good spanish and want to penpal with me? I'm planning on watching Buffy all the way through with Spanish subtitles, but I'm not sure that's really good practice, so much.
