In the middle of my online purchase, I paused to double-check with Hec that it would be okay to spring Emmett from school early that day, and in the 40 seconds it took to have him answer the phone and say Hells yes, hang up, and click the "Complete Your Purchase" button -- they were gone, and the nearest approximation was another $120 pricier.

If the friend isn't aware of you having extra tickets, I don't think it's tacky - but you never know who you'll end up sitting next to when you sell them on Ebay. Then again... turning a profit on the tickets, especially so close to the holidays, is always nice!
Expedia is telling me that a flight to Chicago is about $160. Driving is roughly 1000 miles and I'd need to rent a car since I don't trust my car to make it that far. Shoot. It was a lovely dream while it lasted.
