information libertarian

If romance novels are to be believed, they don't feed you in boarding school. Just gruel and stuff. Your parents have to send food for you to survive and also stuff like coal to heat your room. If you are the hero, your neglectful guardian doesn't do this, so you forge close friendships with similarly abandoned heirs to Dukedoms, and grow up to have adventures, often including spying on Napoleon. If Enid Blyton is to be believed, they feed you fine, and tuck boxes are for cakes. There is a suspiciously large amount of anchovy paste. Both pictures of boarding school food could be accurate, as the stories are set in different centuries.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

people sometimes got care packages when I was at University!

Oh yes! Mine were Christmas cake, milo and overproof rum. Mmm.

Trudy, just think Harry Potter. It's not complicated, really. You'll get the hang of Other Countries any time now.

hip deep in pie

I stayed home from work today after a rough night with the stomach bug. The good news that I am actually hungry today, even though I am not 100%. Somehow the bean burritos I am craving probably aren't a wise choice.

Happy Birthday Shrift!

Coding and Sleeping

Ah yes, Happy Birthday Shrift!

I'll second Trudy's one free smack, so if you are later getting shoved in to the backseat of a black-and-white crown victoria on charges of assault you'll have the comfort of knowing that at least two people are sitting back and thinking, "hey they should let her have that smack for free".

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Fuck, I haven't been sharpening my sword. I don't even have a sword.

I have plenty, but the stupid referees won't let me sharpen them.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I really am kidding about these things you know.

(Except the Gerrys, that was real -- they aren't actually a threat anymore)

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

people sometimes got care packages when I was at University!

They were big for finals weeks at my schools. Little buckets with granola bars, candy bars, cookies, crackers, etc. They were nice to get.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

My mom still sends me care packages. I think she feels sorry for me because I don't live near a Trader Joe's.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

My current care packages are coffee, tamarind balls, and souvenirs. Often also whole nutmegs, patties, coco bread, tinned ackee and rums.
