Cable’s digital drive irks basic customers
PHILADELPHIA - LaRonika Thomas got upset when Comcast moved the Sci-Fi channel to its digital service this summer, ensuring she couldn’t continue to watch her favorite show, “Firefly,” without paying $20 more a month.
The Chicago resident received The Golf Channel instead on her basic, analog cable service.
“I don’t watch golf. I would rather have static on than that channel,” said the theater director.
“It’s an awfully big cost,” said Thomas. “I haven’t canceled my service yet, but I may.”
I kinda' wanna tell her, "Just buy the
Firefly
DVDs."

My office is freezing, and the tapes database is down.
So I can't do any work, and I'm COLD.
Someone should bring me hot chocolate.

Colin's series has gotten 13 episodes picked up! Eureka, on the Sci Fi Channel. Luckily I both don't have Comcast and do have digital.

Hooray for Colin! And look who else is in the cast...

Unrelatedly:
Killer dolphins on the loose. And we haven't even started genetically modifying them yet. I smell a Sci Fi TV movie.

Killer dolphins on the loose
So much for "So long. Thanks for all the fish!"
And we haven't even started genetically modifying them yet. I smell a Sci Fi TV movie.
They screwed up the first cyborg-dolphin-junkie by trying to film Johnny Mnemonic. The short story is much, much better. And even details how the Navy "trains" them--just give them heroine and they'll do anything you want.

I think there is a similar program in place for TV execs, actually.

Drama stars Colin Ferguson ("Coupling""Coupling") as a federal marshal who gets stranded in the small northwestern town of Eureka. He quickly discovers the town is composed of oddball geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research -- a clustering that may inadvertently put their lives at risk.
Huh. I missed all the oddball geniuses when I spent the night in Eureka. I did talk to a bartender, who told me about all the economic problems the city has had since the mine shut down.
This is Eureka, NV, right?
eta: What is "Northwestern"?
