t Stumbling into the thread, soaking wet and spreading muddy footprints and splashes from my hair
It was raining just now! It was actually raining! First it started like just a few drops, like more than once happens this time of the year (before Sukkot), but then suddenly it started actually raining, real rain with wind and puddles and splushing my glasses so that all the street lamps looked like diamonds out of an old movie and people who were walking in the street and saw how delighted I was of all that thought I was completely insane (including, um, my newest-roommate) and probably more than one sukkah (an improvised little sort of hut, with a roof of branches and leaves) was a bit ruined by the actual rain, but it was raining and I nearly danced my way back to the university and I'm such a big dork.
OK, off to dry my socks and not catch a cold. Oh, and try not to ignore so thoroughly and completely whatever other conversations which were going on around here when I splashed drops all over the carpet or something. Sorry. See "big dork" above. It's just that there's nobody here I can squee to, so I have to do it electronically.
[Edit: 6+1=5+2, and they're one-this-now-the-other, like the now-dry-now-wet that is my skirt at the moment. And I'm still one-track-mind and ignoring everybody else. What sort of behavior is that, right after Yom-Kippur?]
Cooking question! How does one go about toasting only one side of a slice of bread, anyway?
Nilly, it's raining here, too. Which I love except I forgot an umbrella. Stupid me.
Emily, why would you want to toast only one side of bread? Not that I would know how, I'm just curious.
Kat!
Um, I didn't even think about taking an umbrella. It's windy, so it's not like one would help a lot anyway, and I love feeling the rain when I know I can get warm and dry afterwards.
It's finally stopped raining here. I love rain, but I've been waiting two weeks now to spray varnish the last bit of the GEE's wedding present!
I'm being all productive today, which would be great... if it had yet included studying for Tuesday's midterm.

Maybe run it under the broiler?

Um... under the grill?
Is this one of those American things? Do Americans not have grills?

Use a broiler, and don't turn the bread.
Emily: broiler. (of course a multi xpost.)
Nilly, your post (and the fact that it's finally stopped here) makes me feel kind of bad about all the bitching I was doing about the rain here for the past week and a half.

I'm so glad you asked. I'm attempting to make Welsh Rabbit! The recipe I have calls for toasting one side, then putting the stuff on the other side, then broiling.
Steph (um, and everybody), is this the oven type broiler? Is there any way to do this (or, for that matter, the later broiling part) in a toaster oven? vw is not here, or I would not need to ask.
