There's more than one way to skin a cat. And I happen to know that's factually true.

Do Americans not have grills?

Americans may. I even may, but cooking is like a foreign country to me.

Your tag here.

How does one go about toasting only one side of a slice of bread, anyway?

Well, some toasters have a bagel setting that will do that. If you don't have such a device, the broiler in the oven works, or if you have a gas stove you can hold the bread over the flames using any number of MacGyver devices.

Don't most toaster ovens have a broil setting (as opposed to toast)? Just broil the one side.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Personally, I'd ignore it and toast both sides. Or you could use a grill pan. The toaster oven's broiler should work fine, too.

Swouncing

makes me feel kind of bad about all the bitching I was doing about the rain here for the past week and a half

See, it's the first rain we've had here for a little ever, maybe seven months or something, so you're totally entitled for a completely different response than mine. I mean, had I had any laundry hanging outside, I would have probably responded completely differently myself.

Welsh Rabbit!

Will it make you happier or sadder if I ask what exactly that is?

Is there a way, on your toaster over, to heat up only one part of t, only the top or only the bottom?

I'm guessing 'broiler' is American for 'grill' then. I have learned a new thing today.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, Emily, you should be able to broil in the toaster oven. Now I want Welsh Rabbit. Mmmm.... cheese...

What is even happening?

It was raining just now! It was actually raining! First it started like just a few drops, like more than once happens this time of the year (before Sukkot), but then suddenly it started actually raining, real rain with wind and puddles and splushing my glasses so that all the street lamps looked like diamonds out of an old movie and people who were walking in the street and saw how delighted I was of all that thought I was completely insane (including, um, my newest-roommate) and probably more than one sukkah (an improvised little sort of hut, with a roof of branches and leaves) was a bit ruined by the actual rain, but it was raining and I nearly danced my way back to the university and I'm such a big dork.

I love this. In general, the droughts in my part of the country seldom mean anything more serious than: There really isn't enough water to be watering your lawn with abandon. But I love it. I love the way everything smells after a good rain. I love how everything looks. Unless it is miserably cold, I don't even mind getting wet, and generally don't bother with an umbrella, unless I'm going somewhere where I should look half decent.

I was never much of a Barbra Streisand fan, but she had a song called Kiss Me in the Rain, with the lines, Kiss me in the rain, and make me feel like a child again
Bring back all those memories...

I was just the right age when it came out, that it always spoke to me. t /dorkier than thou

Cooking question! How does one go about toasting only one side of a slice of bread, anyway?

Everyone else gave my answer. Broiler.

Well, true, but really I mean I'd rather be all happy like you are! I do continue to stand my opinion that I'm happy to have ever-changing weather, because it makes you appreciate stuff.
