aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Y'know, I don't know if I mentioned it, but I was surprised when I figured out that the Fire Engines were one of the non-Mekons/non-Gang of Four bands on the Fast Product compilation from 1979. Which means I've had some of their songs in my collection forever, but just didn't realize it.

And hey! Dig the Stereolab clip.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Except the Fire Engines.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I just got back from the Sgt. Pepper tribute at the Hollywood Bowl with the orchestra and Cheap Trick plus many cool guests. GREAT fun and loads of interesting performers. They did a range of Beatle's songs in the first half, and then performed the whole Sgt. Pepper album in the second. Highlights: Joan Osborne kicking major ass on "Lady Madonna," Aimee Mann singing "Lovely Rita," The lead singer from Ministry wailing on "She's So Heavy," the conductor coming out for the second half of the program in a Cheap Trick t-shirt, and Ian Ball (from Gomez), who was adorable, singing "When I'm 64". Zander was in really great voice all evening and of course Rick Nielsen was amazing on guitar. A very cool night!

He's a very chameleonic singer. Sort of underrated because he can absolutely wail like Roger Daltry, but he can sell Nielsen's snarky lyrics. He can also get a very Beatleseque Lennon or McCartney voice as necessary.

Awesome, Robin! I've been listening to plugs for that concert for weeks, and thought it sounded fun. And the guests sound wonderful. Plus, you reminded me that I really need to pick up some Gomez.

Plus, you reminded me that I really need to pick up some Gomez.

I'd start with one of their first two albums, "Bring it On" or "Liquid Skin". Their subsequent ones just aren't so good, sadly, though most do have their moments, and the most recent one ("How we Operate") was a bit of a return to form.

I have some interesting rarities and EP stuff, if your appetite is sufficiently whetted.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I just saw The Simpsons movie a second time. And to think I was earwormed with "Spider Pig" before....

Also, have people seen this trailer for Spider Pig? It's pretty funny. [link]

And I'm going to be incredibly anal and post a link to the correct lyrics to "Spider Pig" [link]

eta: And the "operatic" version of "Spider Pig" is available from iTunes!

The only reason I posted that is the correct version is a little funnier in that last line....
