katefate, I'm so jealous. I've seen Cheryl Wheeler live twice (at the Great American Music Hall in SF both times, once solo and once with Gorka, Wheeler and Cliff Eberhart), and yesyesyes to you and Kate -- the amazing fingerpicking, the wet-yourself funny, the lightning-fast downshift into something utterly heartbreaking.
I've been pimping on and off (but vigorously when on) for David to come with me if she ever makes it back to San Francisco again. He's maybe partly sort of half-assedly semi-convinced; now she just has to
show up
again.
The Osmonds burning down the house
Awesome! I was expecting a Talking Heads cover, but this was even better. Excellent dance moves!
who work for eMusic as well, including Craig Finn
Really? Doing what do you know? I am intrigued.
What I worry about is being charged later.
FWIW, msbelle, when I have had billing disputes with them in the past they agreed to a quick and easy fix in my favor both times.
here's a clip of The Osmonds burning down the house.
Five guys that white should not rock out that much. They might sprain something.
I like the comment that points out that they have an invisible drummer. It's true!
And how cute was Donnie?
Somebody's got a crush.
I'm telling you, the Osmonds are underrated. Plus, they have a concept album about the Mormon book of Revelations.
As one of the commenters said, the Osmonds were cool once upon a time, and Crazy Horses is a great tune.
and Crazy Horses is a great tune.
It made everybody hit the roller rink during the Bubblegum Book Party.
What's wrong with acoustic music??
Oh Kate, I lurves it myself, but ever since I worked with a guy (who I otherwise adored) who grumbled about "all that acoustic shit," I've been sensitive to how subjective musical tastes are. I always used to think of my tastes as eclectic, but when I look over my collection, the bell curve has a big, fat acoustic middle.
See me waving, katefate?
I do, Theo! I took today off work (which is where my mp3's live), so I will send it off to you when I get back to the office. I'm excited to share a piece of Winfield with a Buffista.
Ooh, I wonder if I could do the mix with only Winfieldites? Extra challengey.
once solo and once with Gorka, Wheeler and Cliff Eberhart
swooning at this trio
John Gorka is coming to Indy in September, and Vance Gilbert in October. Whee!
The manservant must see CW, I decree it. You know what else I like about her? She's a big old out dyke. She came onstage in jeans and shapeless t-shirt and sang like an angel and played like the devil. The audience of mostly straight couples just ate her up - her music, her queer life stories, and her and Kenny White's ultra-lefty views. All in my horrendously red state. It's rare I feel as okay being me in a big group of straight Hoosiers as I did Sunday night.
Enough fangirl gushing. I'm so pleased Kate and JZ share the Wheelerlove.
Corwood (is it wrong that I still think of you as fater?), love the freaky Osmonds vid. They looked like they were have such fun!
And how cute was Donnie?
Somebody's got a crush.
Heh. I should have known in Junior High. I never shared the Donnie crushes of my friends. Nor Davey Jones. I always liked the Monkee that could sing, although I couldn't identify who it was at the time.
Before I spiral any further, and not unrelatedly, I must off to shrinkage.
