Might I point out that I invoked Tawana Brawley last week? t /preens

To me, it would be hopelessly politicized. If it were a sympathizer to the cause, it might be different, but to have the TBTN group involved would be like introducing a character who was a real, life welfare queen. It plays into an agenda that's closer to the Sean Hannity/Rush Limbaugh/Ann Coulter style of blaming the victim than the noirish perspective that assumes evil lurking in the hearts of all.
A-yup. This.
W T F ?!?
The author starts off making sense (in that he/she has an apparent point, even if I don't agree with it) and then apparently took a hit of something or forgot to take a hit of something and just went off into crackville.
I think it would be deliciously twisted and perfect for the morally grey universe of noir. Bad things being done with good intentions.
Totally.
Unless the girls turn out *not* to have been raped at all, but only had their heads shaved to make it appear they'd been raped. That I could see. Fucked up as it would be.
That's exactly what I was wondering...I mean, if you've been roofied and don't remember anything...
Plus, Take Back the Night Rallies in the day are DUM.
Hah!
But yeah, I think it would be interesting if some of teh rapes were real and some were not actually rapes, just the women trying to get more attention for the actual rapes. OTOH, that would be so many kinds of fucked up and really piss me off, putting that kind of shit into a Take Back The Night thing that I might have to hate Rob, so I'm hoping there's more to it. I mean...if that was the way to go, I'd want him to have given it some kind of fake name, and not use an actual group/event thing that has good stuff. So I'm hoping for (because, interesting and noir!) but also hoping against.

It's so stream-of-consciousness, as if it were written in some sort of daze.
And HA! I just saw that the author commented on the post with a link to our reaming of it on TWoP.
The cops are all bumbling and on the take
Not all of them. There seem to be some decent ones still on the force.
Diane Ruggiero and Dan Gabbe, writer and editor of the episode, have recorded an entertaining and informative podcast. It's worth listening to, if only for the BSG geek-out at the end.
Dan Gabbe's actually the editor, not the director (that's John T. Kretchmer).
If TBTN has actually been orchestrating actual rapes to further their agenda, however...that's just sick.
I'm still wondering if the buzzing that Veronica later thought was hair clippers might have been what she thought it was originally. I have no idea what way they would go with that (and if Parker ends up being another person who betrays Mac's trust, I'm gonna be over the show), but...I got nothing past that observation; just made it since no one else had noted it (apologies if I missed it).
