Okay here's the joke:
A man goes on vacation and asks his brother to take care of his cat. A couple days into the vacation the man calls his brother to check in.
"How's my cat doing?"
"Your cat's dead, sorry."
"What???"
"Yeah, I'm sorry, he just died. Nothing I could do."
"You could have at least broken the news to me gently. You know, eased me into it a little bit."
"Eased you into it?"
"Yeah, you know. Start out saying the cat's on the roof. When I call back again tell me the cat fell off the roof but you're taking care of him, trying to nurse him back to health. Then when I call again, you can tell me the cat died and it won't be such a shock."
"Okay, I'm sorry again. Didn't mean to shock you."
"That's alright, I'll deal. So anyway, how's mom?"
"Mom's on the roof."
