Every planet has its own weird customs. About a year before we met, I spent six weeks on a moon where the principal form of recreation was juggling geese. My hand to God. Baby geese. Goslings. They were juggled.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this (she chuckles slightly)--this is working very well for them."

WTF? Not to denigrate the hard work of the good folk in Houston, but if living in the Astrodome with 20,000 other people is a step up, this is just one more sign of how her son and his cronies is ruining this country. On the other hand, I'm sure it is a big step up from where they've probably been the last week. Oh, yeah. I blame him for that too.

Silence means security silence means approval

I keep waiting and waiting for her big mouth to get a fist put in it, but amazingly she's made it nearly 80 years of her tactless life without getting slapped.

I bet they aren't even cute anymore after two years.

Actually yeah. They're still pretty cute after two years.

Rhinos should be Lori's theme animal: super-near sighted, extra sensitive skin.

I expected better from Barbara, but George Jr. had to learn it somewhere, I guess.

Utah has a few hundred refugees, who were not told where they were going when they got on the plane. They didn't know where they were when they got off the plane and saw mountains. Officials didn't want to have people saying, "No, we don't want to go two thousand miles away to where we don't know anyone and where people can't find us!"

I wonder how many families are being permanently destroyed by the "Get on the bus and shut up, you'll find out where you're going later" policy. How are people going to find each other? I doubt people too poor to have a way out of a critcally ill city have cell phones with free long distance.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

billytea, did you see that the New Orleans zoo only lost three animals?

I did see. It sounds like their disaster planning was pretty effective. I feel kind of funny about it. I mean, I'm glad the zoo got through it so well, but it does serve to highlight how poor the human-directed preparations were, and how empty the 'we didn't expect it' excuse is.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Billytea, I don't think it's much of a spoiler to say that wasn't recognition.

who were not told where they were going when they got on the plane.

I know it is a dire situation, but this boggles once again. I've been amazed again and again about how people were required to stay, to go, to not come. It's like they're numbers that can be played with.

I see all that is being done for those who got out ahead of time. Students who can attend any school. Car payment extensions. These are good things and I don't say that they shouldn't happen. They should. But it's just one more example of how if you have even a medium amount of money, or family with it, you have options. If you don't, you're just screwed with over and over.
