It's simple. I slap 'em around a bit, torture 'em, make their lives hell...Sure, the nice guys'll run away, but every now and then you'll find a prince like Spike who gets off on it.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I love the early AM animal visits (we've seen Tigers at both places, but the zoo one is impossible to see at any time after 10:00, I hear).

We've seen bighorn sheep in the wild, even in the canyon you drive between Nevada/Utah on the 15. They're pretty amazing. Next time, we'll definitely go see the condors and sheep.

We were busy with the super charismatic megafauna.

You realise that you can't just mate a giraffe with a rhino and expect this result, right?

Yes. I realize.

Also, I realize you can't just scoop up a baby rhino because they feed with mom for 2 years before they are weaned.

Rhinos are painfully cute.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, I realize you can't just scoop up a baby rhino because they feed with mom for 2 years before they are weaned.

Man, that's bullshit. I bet they aren't even cute anymore after two years.

NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them."

The former First Lady's remarks were aired this evening on National Public Radio's "Marketplace" program.

She was part of a group in Houston today at the Astrodome that included her husband and former President Bill Clinton, who were chosen by her son, the current president, to head fundraising efforts for the recovery. Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama were also present.

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to says we're going to move to Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this (she chuckles slightly)--this is working very well for them."

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

You realise that you can't just mate a giraffe with a rhino and expect this result, right?

Silence means security silence means approval

The fate of various NO landmarks

For years, various pro-South groups have been spending millions on restoring Jefferson Davis's last house, located in Biloxi.

All that's left now is the foundation. The house is gone, destroyed by the surge.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

billytea, did you see that the New Orleans zoo only lost three animals?

I think W is more of a classist than a racist. I think his disregard for the poor contributed (to the point of causation) to a couple of hundred/thousand post-storm deaths. I also think that racism and classism are intertwined enough that the 'difference' between them is pretty fine and when a bunch of black people die because you're a classist the charge of racism isn't completely our of line.
