Wash: Well, I wash my hands of it. It's a hopeless case. I'll read a nice poem at the funeral. Something with imagery. Zoe: You could lock the door and keep the power-hungry maniac at bay. Wash: Oh, no, I'm starting to like this poetry idea now. Here lies my beloved Zoe, my autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now she's all corpsified and gross...

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

LONDON (Reuters) - Oil prices fell by $2 a barrel on Friday as Europe prepared to tap up to two million barrels a day of emergency reserves to help ease a fuel crisis threatening the United States.

Petrol tanks have run down in the world's biggest consumer after Hurricane Katrina tore at the heart of the U.S. energy sector in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday and shut in nearly two million barrels per day (bpd) of refining capacity.

As the crisis deepened, President George W. Bush asked the International Energy Agency (IEA) to release petrol reserves and urged Americans to conserve fuel.

Huh. Once again, we'll take aid from other countries if it's in the form of oil.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I'm really offended by Bush on my tv right now with the governors of Alabama and MS. First, Haley Barbour just complimented the federal govt on what a great job they are doing. Does Barbour not remember BEGGING the President to do something on Tuesday? Or even his complaining yesterday?

I hate this bullshit.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

In other "What the fuck is wrong with people" news, I got my first spam attempting to take advantage of Katrina this morning.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

-t! Honey, I'm so sorry. I've been thinking about you and Henry, and will, of course continue to.

Much love to y'all.

What caused my eyes to roll back in my head during W's little speech was his reference to poor Trent Lott, whose house was destroyed. Yes, sad for him, but don't made me feel sorry for a man who has at least one more house in DC, and a slew of corporate sponsors who are perfectly willing to put him and his into whatever accommodations he would prefer, not while you have babies and the elderly dying in the Superdome because they have nowhere else to go.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Cindy, your post in Press is appreciated. I've already posteded it elsewhere and will be flinging it about madly to my e-mail lists.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Kathy,

You won't believe this (actually, maybe you will)...Lott's BEACHFRONT house was destroyed. His main house is in Jackson (I think) and is fine - last I heard.

Kathy, you're being very silly. Trent Lott has a very PRETTY house that was destroyed. If your shotgun shack or trailer home or just plain old casa is blown away its not the same kind of upsetting. Sheesh.

His WEEKEND PLACE was destroyed and he's a model of human suffering?

I'm going to vomit.
