Seriously? I checked and I used the short-cutty "s" command instead of the other thing.

Do you have problems, concerns, or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
PostgreSQL is generally lacking from web hosts, in a similar fashion to Ruby. A majority of hosts are either LAMP or IIS with MS SQL server.

When I went in there wasn't a shortcutty, because it was a whited out quote. The system then happily ate the closing t /font tag--I went in and put some spaces in after it. Needless to say the automatic tag closing code that was almost written many years ago now is high on the list of things to be taken out and shot against a wall when the Inquisition comes. Not only is it buggy, but it's philosophically flawed in that it edits the contents of the post and saves the edits to the database.

I haven't had much difficulty in general finding PostgreSQL. It strikes me as a mark of flexibility on the part of a web host. Even if I'm not using it, I like it to be there, just because I feel it speaks to there being techie room to grow in that environment. I've found Ruby less prevalent, but it's right there on my $6/month domain. Can't beat that with a stick!
It's only on my cheapo site where I don't care.
They're supposedly very responsive over there (they've even answered a couple of stupid questions from me). They might be willing to add it, if we asked.
Posting is s-l-o-o-o-w for me today -- pages load in more or less normal time, but the post button leads to multiple seconds of waiting.
Yep, I've seen that on occasion today. Could it be possible to add something at the bottom of the pages indicating MySQL processing time or some such? It would help troubleshoot where the problem is.
I don't know if there's much point. Performance has changed but the environment and the code hasn't. If there is database repair to be done, the query time isn't that helpful.
I just signed up for a buffista gmail account, because I want to get an Google maps API key for the site, and I didn't want to use one of my personal gmail addresses.
The captcha code? unded. Nifty.
Huh. The reason I wanted the API code was to get us our own integrated little map. I've spent the evening tinkering with the API, and made a table and was relearning Javascript so I could code a map where you can drag and drop your marker and leave a note.
Then I stumbled onto this phoogle, and it seems the upshot of it is is that if I add a text field to everyone's user record, and they type as much of their address in they're comfortable, I can display a map. So you can be all 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 or Israel, depending on your level of comfort.
Maybe I'll go ahead and just do that. The drag and drop thing can be phase 2.
That is cool! I just typed my state in that field on my profile page if you want to test out how it's working. Also, I can't sleep. But that's not what this is about.
