Spike's Bitches 25 to Life
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I had a good day today. I called T because she took a mental health day from work, and we went out with my mother shopping. It was fun, kind of like what we used to do when T and I were little girls.
sj, new Lily pictures start here: [link]
Thanks Teppy! She is getting prettier every day. I love the shirt that JZ made for her, and I love that skirt Jilli is wearing.
Annabel is getting so big! She looks a lot less like a baby and a lot more like a little girl.
So far, all I have is the intent, the resolve, that there are going to be some boundaries, by god. My actual follow-through, however, hasn't been so great. When the ignoring of boundaries comes from the other person's neediness, I'm unable to say Cut That Shit Out, because I'm too afraid of hurting the other person. Particularly when it's my Dad. Or a close friend.
{{{Teppy}}} Know what you need to work on and having the intent to work on it is half the battle. You'll get there, though maybe not as much with you Dad as you would like to. Parents can be tough. My mom does the constantly checking in thing with me too. I find it easier to just put up with it and cut the conversation short because I am "busy". Good luck.
I'm gonna be in Vermont in 3 weeks -- Ben & Jerry's tour, baby!!!
Teppy, are you going to have any time to spend with the Sommervillians?
Also, I forgot to say this in my last post. I got my grade back for my summer session class that I almost withdrew from.

Yay, vw!!! More amunition to throw at you when you say you can't do it. Go you!
I had no therapy today, it got rescheduled for tomorrow.
Went dancing, co worker did't show up but I gave lousy directions. I think I'll suggest next week she come to my house and then follow me over.
I danced with lots of different people. This guy from Turkey. I screwed his name up a few times. Another guy with a thrilling accent, don't know where he was from. Forgot his name.
And this guy who was teh hawt. Seriously omigod. Hot. Tall, nice arms (at least they felt nice when we were dancing) and hot.
Hannah Fury, eh? Huh. Probably not so much available in Cairo.
Fay, I can put a song up at Buffistarawk for you to download it you'd like to sample her.
I just checked my library's website, and put it on reserve.
Tep, if you like it, I can get you a copy, I bet. If I hadn't sent back the one I used for writing the copy, I would have sent it on.
Oh, thank you! I'll let you know, once I read it.

You know, now that you mention your mom, I think you and I talked about this a little in Cleveland -- the hyper-vigilant "you-must-check-in-with-me-or-I'll-call-the-morgue-looking-for-your-body" parental technique.

I tried to juggle my schedule, and my family has made it clear that there are going to be Far Too Many Family Things for us to do for me to go gallivanting off to Boston. Feh. (But they're probably right, and I love my bro and want to be there, anyway.)
My back is randomly spasming, which is reallllllly annoying. I have muscle relaxers, though, so I took them and now I'm in bed, snuggled up with Harry Potter....errr....the Harry Potter *book*....and hopefully my back will be un-spasm-y in the morning.
(Harry Potter progress: Chapter 1 finished. Woot.)
Yay Steph!
And yay Amy for access to the book. And thanks for the tip off on the timing of the new edition.
The old one was pretty bare bones.
Yah. And my nice hardbound copy looks a bit like what happens when publishers make plates from older copies of a book, rather than re-typesetting. Broken letters, etc. Nice that it will get a revamp.
And what an interesting gig!
eta: yay for the Steph book getting, not for the ouchy back having...boo to that.
The HBP first chapter really sucked me right in! I'm so tempted to climb back into bed and reread it...but can I justify the time? ::drums fingers in contemplation::
And what an interesting gig!
It's fun. I write a lot of romance copy, or used to. I've been getting a lot more nonfiction stuff lately, and I've written copy for Wicca books, cookbooks about smothered Southern food, parenting, all kinds of stuff. Writing copy for Regency romances was always my favorite, because of the very specific tone and language.

Missing you. Could you hop on AIM for a minute. I'm fiorituranotte on it, same as lj.
ETA: I need to sign off now because my grandfather needs to go to sleep in this room, but maybe we could chat soon.

Yes. Especially when I was off with those scary buffista people "that you never met".
Much back~ma, Teppy.
Amy, that sounds like so much fun! And I'll bet I have at least one of your books, given the categories.
I'm making a concerted effort to knuckle down and write my book (which has been outlined for about 9 months) this August. I'm very excited to get it done. And I know I would suck at the jacket copy. Good to know other people do that part!
I just love the idea of getting a book, absorbing the best of it and then sharing it with potential readers. Goodness knows, I'm enormously
influenced by jacket copy.

It's a skill, definitely. The fun part is playing with different voices and styles to get the right tone. Romance copy was usually easy, especially historicals, but nonfiction is more of a challenge.

What kind of book? And don't worry about the jacket copy -- you wouldn't believe how many authors couldn't write their own copy to save their lives. It's hard to boil it down when you're so invested in the book as a whole.
Time was, at the publisher where I used to work (full-time), editors had to write cover copy for all their books, and then the copy department just tinkered and polished. Now it's almost all freelanced, which is good for people like me!
