Spike's Bitches 25 to Life
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
And what an interesting gig!
It's fun. I write a lot of romance copy, or used to. I've been getting a lot more nonfiction stuff lately, and I've written copy for Wicca books, cookbooks about smothered Southern food, parenting, all kinds of stuff. Writing copy for Regency romances was always my favorite, because of the very specific tone and language.
I tried to juggle my schedule, and my family has made it clear that there are going to be Far Too Many Family Things for us to do for me to go gallivanting off to Boston. Feh. (But they're probably right, and I love my bro and want to be there, anyway.)

Missing you. Could you hop on AIM for a minute. I'm fiorituranotte on it, same as lj.
ETA: I need to sign off now because my grandfather needs to go to sleep in this room, but maybe we could chat soon.
You know, now that you mention your mom, I think you and I talked about this a little in Cleveland -- the hyper-vigilant "you-must-check-in-with-me-or-I'll-call-the-morgue-looking-for-your-body" parental technique.
Yes. Especially when I was off with those scary buffista people "that you never met".
Much back~ma, Teppy.
Amy, that sounds like so much fun! And I'll bet I have at least one of your books, given the categories.
I'm making a concerted effort to knuckle down and write my book (which has been outlined for about 9 months) this August. I'm very excited to get it done. And I know I would suck at the jacket copy. Good to know other people do that part!
I just love the idea of getting a book, absorbing the best of it and then sharing it with potential readers. Goodness knows, I'm enormously
influenced by jacket copy.

It's a skill, definitely. The fun part is playing with different voices and styles to get the right tone. Romance copy was usually easy, especially historicals, but nonfiction is more of a challenge.

What kind of book? And don't worry about the jacket copy -- you wouldn't believe how many authors couldn't write their own copy to save their lives. It's hard to boil it down when you're so invested in the book as a whole.
Time was, at the publisher where I used to work (full-time), editors had to write cover copy for all their books, and then the copy department just tinkered and polished. Now it's almost all freelanced, which is good for people like me!
or having a personal problem that I needed to mindfuck to death...uh, talk through
Sentences like this are why I (heart) erika so much.
I am all officially hired and salaried now.
Spending the next hour or two watching old Forever Knights. As much as I adore this show, I have to admit that some of these episodes really sucked.
I am also nursing an ouchy sunburn from the weekend. If I could handle cool baths, a cool bath laced liberally with aloe would be lovely.
I think that is all.
Amy,
It's non-fiction. Based on my treatment process, which I call Innerstoryâ„¢. The process is based in 'understanding, embracing and rewriting your Innerstoryâ„¢. And it's organized around what, so far, I've called Bj-isms...these short, snappy (often funny) phrases that help people replace habits of thought and speech that keep them stuck in old patterns. Sample: Our families teach us the songs and, when we grow up, we hire a different band to play them.
I absolutely love presenting the material in workshops and with individual clients. And I've got a TON of it...so I'll definitely need a good editor.
I hope to write the book, and teach from it to reach a broader audience.
There is not much I love more than hearing an old client, or a former student say, "X was happening, but I reminded myself [fill in the Bj-ism] and I was okay." I get choked up every time!
Not for nothing do I say I am Tim Bayliss, Cass.
Anyone who's known me longer than six weeks has had occasion to say "Please, God, you need to stop." at least once.
The mention of Forever Knight sent me off into a dream state. Now I'm going to follow it up with actual sleep. 'Night Bitches.
I'd so read BJ's book.
Hurry up and write it, please.
