[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Tim, sorry to hear about the unpleasant writing on the wall. But if it's any consolation you do keep dependably putting out great product that you can be proud of and for which lots of us are very grateful.

And the pans were generally dismissive and not unlike the pans Firefly and Wonderfalls got.

Wonderfalls got bad reviews, aside from Pamie's recaps? I must have missed them entirely, as my impression was it was better-loved by critics than even Buffy.

I may have to seize the cat.

I HAVE NOTHING.

Do you have friends? You could maybe borrow a CD player. Of course, if you don't have friends, you might want to get some BEFORE you ask to borrow their stuff.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Yeah, I think it was a real critical darling for its short existence, and it's still constantly referred to as an example of a great show that didn't get its due.

But making friends is hard work, Kiba. Can't I just steal things?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

we really don't make our own good quality tv

I know I'm behind the times, since I depend mainly on BBC America, but I love(d):

  • Coupling
  • Spooks
  • Shameless
  • Second Sight
  • Wire In The Blood

Those I'd call good, or more than. I also enjoy(ed) Red Cap, Murder In Suburbia, Night Detective, Murphy's Law -- off the top of my head. Obviously it's a hugely filtered list, but if I add up the past three years of US/UK TV, the UK is disproportionately represented in my estimation.

Missionary from Hell

Well that sucks. Learn from your mistakes. Next time, include lots of dancing people. Last week's was really good, and I finally got someone who hates TV to watch it, and he liked it, too. When can you get another show that stays on tv? Soon please, I'm sick of those other horrible shows. I'll never get over Fox getting rid of all of these good shows. Every single time I start to like a show, it goes away. Firefly, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Boomtown, Angel, Tru Calling, and now the Inside. I want more good shows, try to make another show with Katie Finneran, please. Heee, wouldn't that be fun if it were that easy?

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

I'd say there are some good UK dramas produced - things like Cold Feet (which is totally not to everyones taste, but is honest to god really good TV writing, and went on for a good 5 series) of 6 or so episodes a year.

It's worth noting because UK dramas have so low budgets, they take a LOT longer to produce. A season of Cold Feet, for example, was only a few episodes, but took a good 8 months or so writing and months of filming, because you have a small crew and basically no money to do anything (can anybody remember the last UK drama to do anything in the rain - I mean, intentionally in the rain, not just because it's always pissing it down in the UK?).
