Pretty cool except for the part where I was really terrified and now my knees are all dizzy.

What is even happening?

Bottom line?

We like stories. That's why we're here. What's a better story:

Firefly, which was only going to appeal to certain tastes to begin with, got the short end of the scheduling stick. The studio owned the rights, so they sold the DVDs to capitalize on the cult following (we hates that phrase) Firefly managed to attract, and Universal wanted Whedon for some key projects, so they sweetened the pot by letting him make his pet failed project into a film, that was nearly guaranteed to sell X number of tickets, based on the TV ratings.

OR

Firefly was too good for TV. When it was mishandled, underpromoted, and fell victim to post-season baseball, the fans organized, because they could see the writing on the wall. They got a sweet request from the creator's wife, who may have been pregnant at the time, which asked people to pimp the show. Dedicated and experienced fans coordinated the effort, and raised funs for a tasteful, artistic ad, and charity. The studio couldn't ignore the bottom line, but thanks to the efforts of the fans, were clear they could recoup some money by selling the DVDs. The talented creator was able to point to the fan devotion, when trying to get a movie commitment from Universal, which was already wooing him. The good-guys are stalwart and true. The bad-guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats and we always defeat them and save the day. Nobody ever dies…and everybody lives happily ever after.

I know which one I'd like to be told.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I know which one I'd like to be told.

RPF?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

From Wikipedia:

Reformatorische Politieke Federatie, a Dutch former political party
Reverse path forwarding
Richard P. Feynman, American physicist
Rwandese Patriotic Front
the Rehabilitation Project Force of the Church of Scientology

I'm not sure which one ita's referring to. I guess the last one, cause everyone loves Scientology.

It's better than real person reality, except for that part where Joss got sunburn on his hands because of the limes. We need that for the fanon. I felt horribly for him, but it was just so gooby, it needs to stay.

Real Person Fic = RPF, P-C. And it's not too P.C., nor is RPS.

Well, not when the real people complain, surely?

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

To clarify my post--I agree with Allyson that the fan's "noise" did not save Firefly. I do think having devoted fans who buy stuff is a thing which makes Joss more attractive to execs--and probably Our Man Tim as well. In that way, having vocal and organized fans is a positive thing. BF is working on trying to get financing for a movie with a director who has won an Oscar, and his name is not enough to get ONE DOLLAR in financing, even though everyone agrees he is very talented and they love his work. Brittany Murphy brings more to the table than this guy, and she isn't even a b-list star.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

And there's a difference between a "fandom" show and a regular little-watched show, no? I mean, I'm sure Two and a Half Men has more viewer than Firefly had, but how many of those people would buy DVDs?

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Well, not when the real people complain, surely?

I don't want to be part of someone's wank. It's a really fucked up feeling.
