When I turned on the radio this morning, I assumed that all the London talk was Olympics-related. It took my brain about half a minute to tune into the fact that words like "simultaneous explosions" and "casualties" indicated an entirely different kind of story.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I hate this stage of things when the news stations are putting up whatever they can get their hands on because they've got air to fill and you're not sure what's right or wrong yet. Then when there's no new information, they grab anyone who might have an angle or a comment and put them in front of the camera/mike.
I love my CNN/NPR, but the fog of news is frustrating.
I know exactly what you mean, connie. I'm trying to let it percolate and not hit "refresh" every few seconds on the news window.
But I'm having trouble concentrating on doing anything else.
Tom, lots of good vibes for your family and friends.
I'm glad ita's family is OK.
It's odd. I'm a big ol' news junkie, but the place I first heard about the London bombings was on lj.
Cannon Street station is closed. My brother works there. Mobile number isn't working. Mum hasn't heard from him. BBC radio stream keeps cutting out. If anyone locally hears anything about that area, please post here or email to my profile address.
Good luck to all who have friends or family in London.
I think I will stay away from the news today.
Anything important happens, I'll hear it from someone I know.
Play with those puppies, msbelle.
Uhg. Well, I got an extra hour of sleep. When the radio went off this am I caught the "bombings" part, but not where. Decided I was NOT going to wake up, pulled the pillow over my head, caught the location and went back to sleep. Not a very useful technique.
Wishing the best for all.
Cindy is supposed to start dumping her leftovers here tonight. Here's hoping Dennis gets a cold and proves to be a failure as a hurricane.
I'm glad ita's family is okay and I hope that Tom's family is too.
I can't take too many bad news all at once. I turn the tv/radio off, even at the stage that connie described, when things are not yet fully known. I just can't take too much of it. I'll check a news site online once every hour or so, but anything more than that makes me numb.
