Mostly lurking...

Lilty, she should totally have to cover that rent. It's too late to tell you otherwise.

When my roommate moved out several years ago, I told her she was responsible for the rent until either I found someone to take her place of the lease was up. It's only fair.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Roomate just said she's moving out Aug. 1 instead of Aug. 15. I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but that's only 5 days after I get back from Europe and I can't be out by then. Which means I have to come up with the whole rent by myself. She's been really nice and said I can give her the second half of the rent a week late when I get my next check. But it looks like a bill or two may go unpaid and I'll be living alone in an empty apartment in a month. Fuck fuck fuck.

Lilty, um, I think some of this is not your problem. She has to bear some responsibility. You say she's nice, but she doesn't seem to give a crap about the position she's putting you in. You may have to tell her that you can't do that and you both need to work together for a solution that doesn't screw anyone over beyond the telling of it.

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

Well, her original plan was to move out August 15th, and pay for August. If she moves out August 1, she wouldn't have to pay for August. I mean, she's giving me over a month's notice and everything. I just get home from Europe on the 25th, have one recovery day off, then go straight back to work. And we don't have a lease anymore, we are going month to month. If it weren't for me, she could include a month's notice with our rent check this week.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Morning, all! Just read through all the posts. I didn't come into the temp job yesterday -- had a mild depression/period/ARGH day, but am much better now.

meara! -- Will you be in KC for sure?! When? Let me know -- we'll get together!

Hair: I shower about every other day. Unless I exercise or ger really gross. And I like my hair better on the second day, but by the third, it's a lank, greasy hairloaf.

YEAH to the homeowners and birthday-havers!

Ann, that's a ferret.

Egad, Lilty. Can roommate be guilt-tripped, at least into looking for a replacement roommate while you're gone?

Coding and Sleeping

That sucks Lilty. Seems like since she put you in a pickle, she could pay 1/3 or 1/4th the rent or something.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

{{Lilty}} That's really unfortunate timing. But I'm kind of glad you dodn't know this before you decided to go to Europe, because you might have decided not to, and I really think this trip is going to be wonderful for you.

Well, she said she'd pay half of August's cable.

I know she feels really bad for all of this, so I'm trying not to fall apart when she tells me this stuff (especially before my coffee). But I've discovered that telling me that I need to find another $400, when I've come straight off a vacation, and that you are going to start selling off the furniture soon before I'm caffeinated will come remarkably close to bringing me to tears.

Can you move out before you go to Europe? Or move out a bunch of stuff before hand and finish moving after you get back? That way neither of you are stuck with living there in August.

That's what I would do, even though it SUX.

Please. She should feel bad. What she is doing sucks.
