Yesterday we had a going away party for a girl who's a total sweetheart and her attitude towards life kinda reminds me of Kaylee. Going to my car I was talking with other co workers and they said she'd change once she got older and life started wearing her down/bad things happened.

Granted, I was never remotely Kaylee-like, but I'm happier and more optimistic as a 30-something than I ever was as a 20-something.

My room is bigger than I expected it would be (bigger than the smallest dorm singles at Caltech) so that's good.

I didn't sleep very well on the plane, so that's not. And no time for a nap, as orientation in an hour. I'm okay, though.

My only responses to what I've skimmed: JZ has pretty hair, P-C makes my heart break for his conflict but smile for his résumé love, and Lilty needs to stop chickening out with Music Store Guy.

Also, my brother's in Banda Aceh. I'm both really amazed and proud of what he's doing and, pettily, wishing my family could stop being so goddamned impressive, please, so I could stop feeling so overshadowed.

Actually, my brother's masters was in American Studies, and I'm not sure he did anything with that, either. Instead, he went into the Peace Corps in the Russian Far East. You see what I'm saying here?
