Then I would just tell her, flatly, that she doesn't need to be announced, and she can stand there as long as she likes, or she can go on back.

askye, the woman is clearly adhering to an outdated social etiquette code. Either that, or she likes making people bend to her whim. Or both, which would make her me. Either way, annoying. Sorry, hon.

Quick question for the hivemind: Just got back from an interview. Said interview ROCKED, and I'm being brought in next week to meet with the group at large. However, the woman who interviewed me will be gone all next week. Is it okay to send her a thank-you email instead of my usual notecard? Normally, I think email is too pushy & impersonal, but I'd like her to see it and know that I'm eager.

juliana, I would definitely drop an e-mail so she gets it.

I think an email is okay in that situation, Juliana. It won't be pushy if you throw in something about wanting to catch her before she is out of the office.
