I quit reading at "limpid blue pools," so I have no clue. Someone was undoubtedly going to move with cat-like grace any moment, though.

I have no idea how I made it far enough into a fic that this line:

Sam glared; "don't... Even... I am absolutely knackered! My head is pounding... There was no milk so I'm having overly-sweetened black coffee... Just... Couldn't this have waited, Gabe?"

made me stop reading, because there's no way that was the first hint. But since Amy is setting a good example, I can learn from her determination and save myself the aggro.

Nothing pisses me off more. The American ethos of the show is so integral to it, it's just careless when Britishisms are left in. I'm not going to try and write East Enders fanfic and have them talking about baseball and McDonald's and elevators.

It's funny: I think there's pretty good awareness with the UK-based fandoms that you need to get someone to Britpick your stories unless you're really, really confident (and, even then, it's probably a good plan).

Is there a parallel term to "Britpick"?

I've seen Ameripick, and it's usually about writers who put "whilst" into the characters' mouths.

I think it's legit, but possibly jarring if it's not speech--how deep are you into one of their points of view? But why do it? Unless your audience is also British, it's unlikely to be transparent, and I'd think you want your words to be transparent when the alternative is :"think of a country they only visited once overnight".

I had to bow out of a recommended Avengers fic because Black Widow (or maybe Hawkeye) kept calling everyone "ducky," In every sentence. There was something else they kept using, but it was the ducky that finally broke me.
