Thanks Dana. I had noticed that plot element overused way too often before, but I hadn't realized it has a handy title.
Gunn: The final score can't be rigged. I don't care how many players you grease, that last shot always comes up a question mark. But here's the thing. You never know when you're taking it. It could be when you're duking it out with the Legion of Doom, or just crossing the street deciding where to have brunch. I always feel the same way when tvtropes comes up -- even more so when it happens in real life (my ex-boss discovered the site the other day and a half a dozen people immediately twittered "see you in a few months!" and the like) (as did I, but also thought "hey, I was there before it was even a domain!")
