People on LJ keep referring to The Great Fanfic Purge, and one person has adverted to Dreamhost, but that's all I've heard. What's up?

Dunno. There was a bit of a flurry last year when a new pornography law was passed in Australia, and a bunch of people took their fic down because they thought they could be prosecuted for having child porn on their sites.

I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about, though. Where'd you see it?

I read something on lj about some Dreamhost sites being ToSed for something to do with aheming. No details, though. Sorry.

Most of the sites I've heard of were TOSsed for making downloads of various shows available to people (generally either Dr. Who or Stargate). I personally haven't heard of fic being TOSsed, but I probably wouldn't have even known it happened if people hadn't referred to it in their LJs.

Oh. Well, the first rule of ahemming is Don't Talk About Ahemming, and that goes double for doing it on your website. Sorry, can't remember where I saw it; it was all vague allusions that made me nervous.

I suspect it was less because of copyright issues than bandwidth and server loads, personally.

Well, I think most people were making the whatsits available via their fic sites with Dreamhost, so the fanfic has been purged along with the ahems.

ETA: what Dana said. Dreamhost made these huge plans available with the assumption that only a fraction of people would make use of the space and bandwidth they had available. And when too many people began using all the space and bandwidth their plans had to offer, Dreamhost started looking for a reason to TOS them.

Kat/Kara in BSG, because OMG the slashiness. Also Kara/Tigh (not a kink of mine, per se, but I just think it's totally plausible for early Season 3). Dean/Faith. (Having watched the first 11 eps of SPN Season 2 I'm now sorely tempted to write another ficlet in my BtVS/SPN crossover 'verse, because - dude! Amber! As a hot brunette vamp on her own personal 12 step programme! The prospect of Faith/Lenore slays me... and then there's Darla and Dru getting their hands on her....gah.)

Also? Connor/Wesley totally punches my buttons. Yes. Always has.
