Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

When I went to look at stories written in the Angel fandom, the first 4 or 5 stories listed were for Dark Angel.

I think the quicksearch function is a little bit broken, and that it's being worked on.

If you're dead set on finding those stories, they would have only been in the first year of Yuletide because it allowed rare pairings:

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Huh. They allowed rare pairings? I didn't know Buffy or Angel were ever a part of Yuletide challenge, since the whole point of the thing is to request and write stories for rare fandoms. Yuletide wouldn't be the first place I'd look if I'm jonesing for Jossverse fanfic.

Now, I *was* a little aghast that The Office US turned out to qualify, since it's quite a healthy-sized new fandom with its own newsletter and fanfic archive and so forth. I suppose it's not in the collective fannish radar yet. Not that I'm complaining, because the stories posted are lovely. (Dana, did you see someone wrote an adorable Pam/Toby?)

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

The whole point of the thing the first year was rare pairings and/or rare fandoms. I got a Grissom/Sara story. There was also no policing of requests, so it was pretty much up to the requester what they considered "rare".

(Dana, did you see someone wrote an adorable Pam/Toby?)

I saw it recced, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. It's on the list.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I totally am teasing you in the near future about how there was good quality DA fic at Yuletide, because when I first saw it I turned to Fay and said, "I predict we will hear squee from the general direction of Seattle shortly."

Damn skippy! It was a Chrismakkah miracle! And DUDE, there was SLASH! It's like, the least slashy (in terms of output, not subtext) fandom I read. The lack of it was so sad-making, because there's only so many times one can be expected to read The One With the Alley Fucking.

Man, I feel like I'm never going to hit the end of Yuletide.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I was surprised to see Avatar fics on this year's Yuletide. There are over 6,000 fics for it on ff.net. Anyone know how that one got through? (I'm not complaining, simply curious.)

Due to the size of the project, sometimes big fandoms slip through. Usually it's a fandom that the mainstream Yuletide crowd isn't familiar with, which is a problem with anime, cartoons, and comics, sometimes. A year or two ago, Fruits Basket made it in, for example.

There are over 6,000 fics for it on ff.net.

And I've tried looking there for Avatar fic, but left screaming every time.

A perfect example of quantity =/= quality. A lot is posted at avatar_fans over on LJ, but that place is, quite frankly, scary. I've been posting some stuff over on avatarfic, and have found a few good things there as well.

Thrive to spite them

Another Yuletide Rec:

Make You Own Kind of Music (Beautiful Thing) [link]

This makes me want to run out and buy the movie and watch it over and over.

Man, Yuletide has got all kinds of fic I wouldn't even have thought to look for! I found a Zenna Henderson "People" fic. And it was very, very good. Oh, how I've missed new People stories. So good to find one and so well done, too.
