My mind is clearly too steeped in fandom:
In the early years of the computer, the first expansion of π to 100,000 decimal places was computed by Maryland mathematician Dr. Daniel Shanks and his team at the United States Naval Research Laboratory (N.R.L.) in 1961.
Daniel! Shanks! Hee!
Hell, one of my coworkers is called Mrs Shanks, and I got quite excited about the possibility that she could be related, before it struck me that just being North American and having that surname does not a close relative make.
Probably.
There's a quite famous archaeologist called Michael Shanks.
There's a Daniel Jackson that lives in my building. Sorry, that's all I got.
I'll be really impresssed when someone 'fesses up to knowing a "Teal'c."
I'm not sure what Dana's site is, Fay, but Twisting the Hellmouth has some Buffy/Methos fic. Good luck.
Speaking of Daniel Jackson, I just came across this absolutely mind-blowing epic gen(ish) AU/quantum mirror SG-1 novel called A Mirror For Observers. And it just destroyed my Sunday.
The basic premise is that mysterious aliens swap "our" Daniel Jackson for Danielle Jackson, from another reality, and then she has to help get him back. It goes way beyond that, into all sorts of alternate reality/time travel things, and does a fantastic job of re-imagining the plot of SG-1 seasons 5 through 9.
There's romance and sex in it, although it's sort of spoilery to say what they are. Just that it's all a bit unexpected and yet creatively done.
I enjoyed the hell out of it, and thought it was marvelous. Highly recommended.
(BTW, this is the same writer who wrote that kickass House/SG-1 crossover with Daniel/House sex a few months back.)
That link there goes to her LJ, and that story is on the first page of her LJ, I believe. I think it's called "Hotel Sex" and it's quite brilliant.
Yes, it really, really is.
