Tracy: Well-- That call -- That call means you just murdered me. Mal: No, son. You murdered yourself. I just carried the bullet a while.

Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

For those who remember Martha Wilson's SGA/SG-1 crossover Retrograde (probably the best gen story posted in either fandom in the last year), she's posted a sequel, Recovery. Gen, but for grownups, and full of her trademark plotting, banter, and rock-solid characterizations. Highly recommended.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Seconded. Pretty good stuff.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I think I've been scarred for life:

McKay blanched. "I'm sorry… I'm a genius, but I'm unable to master my heart.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Like McKay ever said "sorry" without irony in his life. I would remember, because I would have howled at his hilarious Canadian accent.

Punishingly Intricate

(probably the best gen story posted in either fandom in the last year)

Stupid Question Time: this has been bugging me for a while but I've been too lazy to ask. What is "gen"?

If I only had a brain...

"gen" is, I think, het with no explicit sex. Opposite of slash. Dana? Shrift?

If I only had a brain...

Ah. My Googling says it's stronger: "gen" means it isn't primarily about a romantic relationship. ''If you take out the romance and the core story isn't affected, it's 'Gen'"

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Nope. Het is the opposite of slash. Gen is short for general audiences, usually meaning that the story is not focused on a romantic pairing, and could be expected to resemble an episode of the source.

There are occasionally debates about whether you can have NC-17 gen, with the warning being for violence.
