"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

That's the series Master and Commander was based on? Not really my cup of tea...

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Yeah, but thankfully, her stuff has many fewer descriptions of ships. That tends to be where I glaze over in the O'Brian books.

Matt, the reviews I've seen, including ones by people who don't know her, appear to be very strong. FWIW. And I read the sample chapter and thought it looked marvelous.

Me, I can't wait to read it; on the other hand, if I wait for the US editions, I get to read them one-two-three in three months. So I'll probably wait.

I read the sample chapter, and think I'm going to pass. Exceedingly well-written work that doesn't hold my interest is still work that doesn't hold my interest. Though I'll be keeping an eye out in case she writes a sci-fi or espionage thriller novel at some point.

I'm half-way through now; just spent my entire morning in bed reading. I really am enjoying it immensely. It's much less Boy's Own Napoleonic Wars than I was expecting.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Crazy Nikita author is back, not with a terribly written sex scene, but with very strange author's notes.

This portion of the story is taken (word for word and then some) from:
"THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS”

an Oscar winning 99 minute film, staring 29 Canadian actors, a bunch of extras...
‘ET ROY DUPUIS’

delivering the 5½ minute performance that defined the Oscar. 24 minutes into the story the 2003 Academy Award for the Best Foreign Film was clinched with M. Dupuis’ 330 seconds realization of cinematic supremacy…

And, okay, a couple of snarks:

Sebastien walked through the big glass doors and straight towards the wood topped counter were the woman worked, addressing her in effortless French, “Bonjour.”

Yes, I imagine it is rather effortless to say "bonjour," even if you don't actually speak French.

The man evidently a detective wore his height, ample chest, handsome features and scruffy chin as the perfect compliment to his in-charge attitude and his almost perfect caricaturish traits.

His ample chest?

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Oh, dear. She's serious, isn't she?
