What is even happening?

Oh, god. I could barely have hated movie!Arwen more. She's supposed to be an immortal, not a petulant teen trying to convince her dad to change curfew.

And yet? Still better than movie Eowyn for me. She made me cringe. Arwen won me over riding hellbound for leather with Frodo, and then when she called the river-o-horsies down on the wraiths, and got Frodo to Rivendell.

Some people might say, "She had me at hello," but why use so few words?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

When Eowyn felled the Oliphaunt, or grabbed up Merry, or snapped at Eomer for mocking him, I got all nice and shivery inside. When she pined at Aragorn I yelled at him to stop being such a fucking clit-tease.

Arwen made me cry and yell too, but in very different ways. I don't blame Aragorn for kissing Brego.

Book Eowyn now looks brittle and offputtingly death-seeking to me now.

I prefer her brittle and death-seeking to merely heartsick. Mostly I wanted her less friggin' girly, which was also Arwen's problem. 3000 year-olds shouldn't giggle like that.
