I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Thanks for the hugs and good wishes upthread, y'all!

And how much do I love the phrasing in this?

amych: It was strangely empowering in its backhanded way, in that it acknowledged that yes, damn it, I was right -- but the fundamental mistrust of authority led to decades of haircolor bills like you wouldn't believe.

Very, very, very much. Also, lots. I may need to tag part of it, if I may, amych.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Well, I ended up in the hospital for several days, got a spinal tap, couldn't walk. Turned out to be a mysterious ailment that went away on its own ("Must have been a virus settled in the child's spine"). Did the nun apologize? Hell no.

Bad nun! But weirder to me is the fact that just yesterday my coworker was telling me a similar story about her father. He had a harder time recovering, but is now OK, I guess. Weird shit, man.

Edit: I forgot!! CUTEHEAD MAL!!

CUTEHEAD MAL!!

I'll just repeat this. And I swear, my nephew had some of the same outfits. His mom wasa big Pooh fan.

I sent my mom an email yesterday chronicling my mouse adventures. My mom hates mice. Her response was "I think I would have better survived a reenactment of Psycho."

My mom really hates mice. Poor mom. Which is why I have to tell her all my mouse tales.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

What a way to go

Super-volcano, robotic rebellion or terrorism? Kate Ravilious asks 10 scientists to name the biggest danger to Earth and assesses the chances of it happening

I think we had a similar list a while back, but this one had one that was new to me. So now we also gotta worry about telomere erosion....

Didn't check out the list, tommyrot, but from what I've read, telomere erosion isn't so much a threat to mankind as a fact of aging.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

However, it is not just through our lifetime that telomeres get shorter. My theory is that there is a tiny loss of telomere length from one generation to the next...
