Once when I was babysitting, the baby was inconsolable unless I was singing to her (or running warm water over her feet but that took a while to figure out.) I inherited my mother's singing ability plus I can rarely remember lyrics in their entirety.
So I sung the one thing I DID know all the lyrics and music to at that very moment: Mining for Gold

That's the one Aimee Mann covered in "Magnolia" soundtrack. I'm not so fond of the movie, but I love love LOVE that soundtrack. I had no idea it was on the X-Files soundtrack. Come to think of it, it's a good song for Mulder.
I think the battle in my head for the ultimate earworm has been won by the Chorus Line song. Damn, I've been in a snarly mood all morning, and that song is just way too perky for me to maintain "CRUSH! KILL!" mode.

The only thing I'm known to sing on a semi-regular basis to small children is the song Holly Hunter sings in Raising Arizona.
On rare occasions, I'll branch out to Moonshadow, but I generally try to avoid the whole singing bit.
