Nutty -- does that mean you missed the parts that involved JRM? Or somehow you screened out all the soccer surrounding him?
I've seen some of
Fever Pitch
and it worked better for me than the book did. Possibly because it was a less intense version of it.
Victory had too much Sly for me (I was in my anti-Stallone period at the time).
I just managed somehow not to see a single part that involved soccer.
Just as well. The soccer sequences are terrible.
Victory had some very good sequences, because they had a bunch of professional soccer players in the film. (Although I still wonder at how Pele would wind up in in a POW camp.)
Shaolin Soccer was loads o' fun.
We saw the ad for the Jimmy Fallon Fever Pitch last night. I didn't even realize that the movie had anything to do with the Hornby book until they showed the title at the end. My preference is to keep Jimmy Fallon away from things I like, and I liked that book, thanks.

Well, I don't especially like JRM, but what I saw of the movie was an illicit trip to Germany (dressing up, dancing) and then some reaming by parents (upon return, or not, I don't remember). Also, some hanging out in bedroom with toothpick-narrow girl, talking about boys.
Somehow I think this movie is not about soccer the way
The Natural
is about baseball. (Not that we all need that much Malamuddish heavyhandedness in our lives.)
Shaolin Soccer!
Believe it or not, I'm thinking of a different Buddhist-monks-playing-soccer movie. I think. Shaolin Soccer appears to be in theaters now, and I was tempted to rent the other one 3-5 years ago. Aha, it was The Cup
I'd forgotten about Shaolin Soccer, but I loved it.
So, you also missed the fun Indian wedding stuff at the end?

It's been out on DVD for a while.
I'm sure there's an explanation for no one mentioning
The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick.
