Illyria: Wesley's dead. I'm feeling grief for him. I can't seem to control it. I wish to do more violence. Spike: Well, wishes just happen to be horses today.

'Not Fade Away'

Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Much as I love to see Northam's characters seducing guys, I don't think the world is quite ready for filmmakers to take that many liberties with Bond.

But, but, but . . . pretty! And I want it.

Oh, ok, you're probably right.

Still, in Calliworld there'd be three of these Bond movies already, with unrated versions available on dvd.

I can't even.

Last time this conversation came around, I think Sean and I suggested Jason Statham, but ita (I think?) thought he was too beefy. Connery was a pretty good size (body builder in his time).

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

He's too smug and has an afflecky chin.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

afflecky. adj. (AFF-lek-ee) Excessive, overwhelming, or intrusively calling attention to oneself. I was going to say yes, but his proposal was so afflecky that I didn't even want to talk to him.

Good word.

I don't think Bonds are allowed to be particularly bald, are they? Jason Statham is particularly bald. Also, about as common as Clive, yes?

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Statham's a bit of rough, isn't he?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I can't see him being suave enough. Bond must be suave, surely?

Not that I'm not looking forward to "The Transporter 2". Jason Statham kicking the shit out of stuff.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Chilwan Etyofor

Chewital Ejiofor. Or at least that's how you say it. Chewy for short, like he's a Wookie. Bless. So lickable. Or chewable. Or something.

Jack Davenport gets my vote. For - well anything, actually, but in this instance, for Bond. Because - gah.

I also think he should be Snape instead of Rickman. I love Rickman with a huge love, and I'm glad he's got this high profile role, but he's very much older than the character really should be.

If not Ewan McGregor (and I agree he seems inappropriately boyish), how about his Shallow Grave costar, whatchamacallim? The 9th James Bond? He's very versatile.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Chiwetel. edited 'cause that sounded snippy, and was not meant to be.

Remember early Connery (the way Bond should be, dammit)? Big Tam was a plasterer and a bodybuilder before he got into the acting game. I think Statham could do that edgy sauve. All he needs is a tux and a BBC accent.

Yeah, I thought there was probably an E instead of the A, but couldn't be arsed to check. Which I realise sounds really bad, 'cause my post looked like I was trying to be Pedantry!Girl, but I just think that Chewy is such a frakking splendid name that it should be known.

(I'm rather startled if I got the rest of it right? Go team me!)
